The Project Lepto studies the ecology of animal hosts, rodent-borne disease including leptospirosis and sociological factors that involved in the transmission of this disease. Our project combine three pillars such as comprehensive field work, laboratory work and also education and local outreach to ensure awareness among the public.
Leptospirosis is a globally distributed zoonotic disease with more than one million cases and 60,000 deaths annually. The transmission circle of leptospirosis involves a complex interaction between animal reservoirs, environment and human.
This project aims to determine the potential carriers of leptospirosis and the prevalence of pathogenic Leptospira spp. in non-volant small mammals.
